Who can audition?

Boys and girls ages 5 and up may audition. Previous dance experience is not required. Students performing in the show will be required to take a weekly ballet class in order to best prepare for the show!

How do I register?

You can pre-register using the Movement on Main Parent Portal. This is a great option if you would like to participate but will be out of town for the Audition. You can also register the day of the audition, please arrive 15 minutes early to register.


When are Auditions?
When: Saturday, August 10th
Ages 5-6: 10:00-10:30
Ages 7-9: 10:30-11:15
Ages 10 + beginner and Level 1: 11:15-12:00
Ballet Level 2: 12:00-1:00
Ballet Level 3: 1:00-2:00
Ballet Level 4+: 2:00-3:30

What does the audition consist of?

The audition will consist of a traditional ballet class, no prepared material is needed.

What should my child wear?
Girls ages 5-6: Leotard, Skirt, Pink tights, Pink Ballet Shoes, Hair in a ballet bun. If dance wear is needed, please see us regarding the required dress code for classes and rehearsals.

Girls ages 7 and up: Leotard, Skirt Optional, Pink tights, Pink Ballet shoes, Hair in a ballet bun. If dance wear is needed, please see us regarding the required dress code for classes and rehearsals.

Boys: Black tights or Shorts, White Shirt, White Socks, White or Black Ballet shoes.


How much are the fees?

- Audition/Registration Fee of $15 is due at the time of the audition

- The $75 production fee is due at the first rehearsal and covers all rehearsals and costumes for each student

-In order to maintain our $75 production all other funding for the show is done by fundraising and donations. Each family is required to secure a $50 sponsor. This can be a from a local business, friends or families who would like to support our mission to bring pre-professional training and performances to Muskingum County!

How do I pay?

All fees can be paid my cash or check to MYPA at Movement on Main's front desk.


What is MYPA?

Muskingum Youth Performing Arts is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to providing pre-professional level performance opportunities to dedicated dance students. The goal of MYPA is to expose dance students to the pre-professional production setting. Students who participate in MYPA’s production of The Nutcracker, will hone their dance technique, enhance their performance experience, and boost confidence, as well as be a part of a supportive community of friends and instructors.


What is Movement on Main Center for Dance's role?

Movement on Main host all rehearsals and auditions for MYPA. We also provide the training for each student to progression in their technique from one year to the next.

How long are Rehearsals?

Students in level 3 and up will begin rehearsing in August, Level 2 and under will begin rehearsing in September. We will continue to rehearse each Saturday and/or Sunday until the show. Rehearsal starts at 30 minutes each week per role, and increases with age and ability.


How does double casting work?

Students in Ballet level 1 and under will be in either Cast 1 or Cast 2. Students in ballet level 2 and up will be in both casts and all performances


When are the Performances?

Required Dress Rehearsals and Performances

Cast 1:
Dress Rehearsal: Sunday, November 24th at 10am
Dress Rehearsal: Monday, November 25th at 5pm
Shows: Saturday, November 30th at 2pm and Sunday, December 1st at 7pm

Cast 2:
Dress Rehearsal: Sunday, November 24th at 4pm
Dress Rehearsal: Tuesday, November 26th at 5pm
Shows: Saturday, November 30th at 7pm and Sunday, December 1st at 2pm

No performances or rehearsals on November 27th, 28th, and 29th.
