Theatre Arts Training Camp
June 27th-July 1st

Students will have daily classes in singing, acting, dancing, and improvisation. Beginners are welcome and students will have the chance to practice skills as a group or soloist. The goal of our training camp is to give students the stage skills and confidence to audition for school plays and musicals as well as local theatre productions. Students will conclude the camp with a showcase to share what they have learned on Friday, July 1st.

What is Main Street Theatre Company?

Main St. Theatre Company at Movement on Main offers an outlet for students to train and develop their musical theatre skills. Students will practice performance skills such as singing, acting, dancing, and improvising. Our theatre arts and choir classes allow students to build their skills and confidence for auditions, rehearsals, and performances.

Class Descriptions:

Theatre Arts

Students will follow the Ohio Department of Education Standards for Theater for their grade level. Key concepts our students will explore are:

*memorizing and analyze short monologues.

*utilizing theatre vocabulary to be prepared for scene work, auditions, and other theatrical projects.

*the use of music in theatre performance through solos and ensemble singing and movement.

*preparing a dramatic piece for performance

Youth Choir

Students will follow the Ohio Department of Education Standards for Music for their grade level. Key concepts our students will explore are:

*the voice as an instrument

*basic music reading skills

*moving and responding to a variety of styles of music

*a variety of rhythm instruments and exploring the differences between keeping a steady beat or the rhythm of the song

*participating in ensemble and solo singing

*preparing music for performance

Group Guitar

Students will follow the Ohio Department of Education Standards for Music for their grade level. Key concepts our students will explore are:

*learning to read standard music notation and guitar tablature

*learning to play pen position notes on their guitar *essential music theory

*learning basic strumming patterns

*learning how to tune their guitar using a variety of sources.

*learning basic chords to be able to perform three chord songs.

*preparing music for performance.

Our Instructor:

Sheryl Wise has a Master’s Degree in Music Education. Her major areas of study are saxophone, voice, piano, and theatre. She has experience as a High School Theater Director and Teacher and has directed, performed, and choreographed countless performances for schools and community theatre. Sheryl offers private instruction in voice, piano, guitar, and many other instruments as well as private instruction in theater and college audition preparation. She has over 40 years of experience in teaching music and theater in public schools and can not wait to share her expertise and love of music and theatre with our students at Movement on Main.
